The entry fee is R350.00 for Challenge 2012.

Compulsory Personal Sponsorship: R350.00 (minimum requirement)

Distance: 75km


Critical Dates & Times


Entries Open: Thursday 01 December 2011

Entries Close: March 2012 or once the maximum field of 400 riders is reached.

Registration: Takes place at Giant’s Castle on Friday 27 April 2012 from 12h00 to 18h00 and Saturday 28 April 2012 from 06h00 to 07h00.

Catering:

Please note that in 2012 we will be using Dave Dixon Caterers, which means that meals need to be pre-booked. You can book for Friday and Saturday night. Additional meals can be booked for family/friends.


Pre-Race Briefing:

A pre-race briefing, which MUST be attended by all participants, will take place at 18:30 during registration inside the marquee on Friday evening. Final instructions regarding route changes (if necessary) and a weather report will be given before the start of the race. Race briefing dinner will take place at 18:30 at the Race Village on 27 April 2012. All participants have to be present for this. A fully detailed description of the route, checkpoints, medical assistances, etc will be given.

General Rules:

  1. All rules & regulations of EKZN Wildlife apply while you are in the Reserve. Note: Littering is an offense.
  2. A helmet must be worn for the duration of the Challenge - no helmet, no ride.
  3. Age Limit: You must have turned, or be turning 19 years old in the year in which the current Giant's Challenge is staged.
  4. Under no circumstances may you allow another cyclist to ride in your place should you be unable to participate. No substitutions will be allowed.
  5. No refunds will be made.
  6. Every participant must display a Challenge number for the duration of the Challenge. A number board will be issued to each participant at Registration.
    Number boards will be collected from you at the finish so that they can be reused at the next Challenge.
  7. No seconding of riders will be permitted.
  8. Each participant will be responsible for carrying what they consider essential for survival & safety during a one-day event in high mountain country such as the Drakensberg. Individuals are advised to carry their own first aid kit.
  9. Each participant is to ensure that his/her cycle is in good condition. This event is extremely tough & is punishing to both body & bike.
  10. Marshals and officials must be obeyed at all times.
  11. Slower riders must give way to faster riders.
  12. No shortcuts or deviations from the route are allowed.
  13. The Giant’s Challenge is run under & conforms to the requirements of Cycling South Africa.
